

Gardner Fox and Joe Kubert created a new version of Hawkman in issue #34 (February–March 1961) with the character receiving his own title three years later. With issue #25, the series was reinvented as a try-out title for new characters and concepts, starting with the Suicide Squad created by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru. Originally, The Brave and the Bold was an anthology series featuring adventure tales from past ages with characters such as the Silent Knight, the Viking Prince, the Golden Gladiator, and Robin Hood. In "Menace of the Madniks!", it was revealed that Booster Gold was friends with Ted Kord before his death. They are the only one who have not been brainwashed by Starro. Later, he appeared in "The Siege of Starro!" where he and Skeets team up with B'wana Beast, Firestorm, and Captain Marvel. Batman eventually frees himself and the two fight Riddler and his henchmen. In "A Bat Divided!" Booster Gold and Skeets are on a game show trying to save Batman, and Booster gets all the answers to the riddles wrong, harming Batman. However, after Kru'll kidnaps Skeets, he sacrifices his glory to save his only friend, and Booster ends up earning Batman's respect. He first appears in "Menace of the Conqueror Caveman!", he comes back from the future to stop Kru'll the Eternal, and teams up with Batman believing this will increase his chances of having his own franchise. Booster aspires to be a famous hero, but has an ego problem. A museum security guard from 400 years in the future who uses technology to fight crime in Batman's time.
